You must have heard about Feminists saying that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. To add to this, they say that no woman should feel ashamed of her scars, body hair, stretch marks, acne or piercings, and even size; but do these feminists say anything about what it takes being bald in India or bald is not beautiful? It’s a taboo in India. Today in this article, we will discuss about baldness being a taboo in India.
Be it Bollywood or be it Hollywood
The movies impact our society, be it Hollywood or Bollywood. Villains like Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series, Dr. Evil from Austin Powers, etc. from Hollywood, and Shakaal in Shaan to Kancha Cheena(Sanjay Dutt) in ‘Agneepath’ from Bollywood everywhere the villains are shown bald.
Ganja, Takla, and other derogatory words’ use are common
In India, not only do persons in darker colors need to hear derogatory words, but bald people are not untouched. You will be nicknamed based on your baldness. For dark-skinned people, it’s Kalua, Kalia, etc. Even getting stared in the metro or in the market is common. The stigma around hair loss dents the confidence of many men. People stare at the guy unnecessarily during society functions, making the guy uncomfortable and avoid public places.

The society aunties will ask why are you bald at such a young age they will talk amongst themselves about who will marry him. He even may not get a US visa as he is bald. They then try to give ayurvedic and other home remedies for it’s cure.
